Our annual autumn festival of Durga Puja and cultural programmes will be held during October 9, 10 and 11, 2009 at the Community Hall of the Vedic Society Hindu Temple, Radcliffe Road, Southampton, SO14 0PS. The events are open to all members of public irrespective of their ethnic origin and religious belief. Free Admission. All are welcome.

October 9, Friday

8:30-9PM Variety Cultural Programme.

9-9:40PM Dr Pooja Angra (Southampton) performing Indian Classical and other songs.

9:40PM -10:40PM Pt. Biplab Mandal, the world famous Percussion maestro come in a live concert "Samagam - The Confluence". Sitar Pt. Tirthankar Banerjee (Kolkata) and Spiritual singing Dr. Ananda Gupta (Dakshini Kolkata) UK, and Mr. Jaydeep Sinha (student of Maya Sen) Kolkata.


October 10, Saturday

3-3:45PM Western band: Melissa vocalist performing Folk, Rock, Acoustic, Pop, Jazz, Country, Reggae, Classical, Great, Good, Superb, Sultry, Wonderful, Cheerful, Soulful, Humorous, Melancholy, and Jolly Marvelous.

4-4:30PM: Spanish Music by Jero Ferec and Javier Macias Vazquez Tona, Tangos "Raiz", Alegrķas, Fandangos -Tanguillos "Terraza del Carmen, Tangos, Solea por Bulerķas, Bulerķas y Fin de Fiesta.

9-9:30PM Vidya Thirunarayan and her Southampton group performing Bharat Natyam dance recital.

9:30PM-10:30PM Bani and Indrani Bhattacharya, a mother and daughter duo from Scotland performing a selection of traditional and contemporary Indian music and dance, including Bhajans, Gazal, Bollywood, Bengali songs and Kathak dance.


October 11, Sunday

2:30-3:30PM Rajib and Moumita of Udok Performing Arts (Kolkata) performing Indian folk dance.

3:30-5PM Nari (Women):A dance drama by ladies and children. Nari is our effort to worship, celebrate and encourage the strength of the woman. With our rich tradition of dance, music and literature our effort is to express the myriad forms a woman takes in her journey through life. Nari is our first step towards making a wider social offering for women everywhere.



The events are likely to draw in excess of a thousand people and will provide an excellent opportunity for advertising goods and services. Please contact us if you would like to sponsor various activities, such as Puja offerings, bhog, parts of cultural programmes, and children's activities.

We proudly announce the continued support of Kuti's group of restaurants serving Southampton and nearby areas. Our cultural functions are supported by a grassroots grants by the Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Community Foundation, Vedic Society (Southampton), Art Asia, and some local businesses.
